Grocery shopping in Paris
Because I hope to one day live in Paris I decided this trip to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel. The apartment is great and just steps from Fontaine des Innocents and a 2 minutes walk to Pompidou.
Since I'm staying in an apartment I needed to go grocery shopping. I used maps to find landmarks so I wouldnt get lost. Keep in mind that I can read French a bit but I am a novice at speaking and hearing/understanding French.
On the map I saw a Starbucks was across the street from the store....good landmark. If I pass Starbucks I went too far. Getting to the street on which the store and Starbucks is located was easy but when I turned onto the street there were no simple landmarks to remind me of the street I turned off of and trying to read my way around I knew I wouldn't remember which Rue it was. Turns out when I turned the corner there was a homeless lady lying casually in the middle of the sidewalk. I thought, "she couldn't move to the side?", but she's homeless, it's 30° and drizzly and there's no point in my being a d*ck.
I was walking on the side of the street on which Starbucks was located so that I could get a visual on the store across the street. I see a pharmacy, clearly indicated by the flashing green crosses they use here, then there was a shop identified with a blue comma (🤔) then some other retail shops. Yep, the blue comma was the grocery store (😐). I cross the street with a crowd of people then go in the store. It's all good, it's a store. I buy a few items to stock my fridge with a few quick meals and some wine (☺🍷), pretend to understand the clerk and check out.
Sidebar: I apparently am fluent in French currency. I understood that part 💯. 😂
I get back on the street to find my way back home. Being that I'm geographically-challenged by nature I knew I would get lost. Thank goodness I remembered I turned where the homeless lady was perched.
Lesson of the day: Don't use the homeless woman on the sidewalk as a landmark because she left before I got out the store and I almost got lost. 😂😂
